Background and Personal Life:
Early Life
Davon was born in Miami, Florida, but had his upbringings in Atlanta, Georgia. He is his mother's only child, but the youngest on his father’s side, with five older siblings–one sister and four brothers.
Marriage Life
Davon first met his wife, Deborah Johnson, in early 2010 at a local church in Miami Gardens, Florida where they both attended service. They built a platonic friendship over the course of two years at Florida International University, the college where they were both enrolled at and pursuing their individual careers. They would often spend their free time together–sharing their faith with other students on campus. God eventually laid it upon each of their hearts that they would one day become husband and wife.
After prayer, confirmation, seeking godly counsel from their spiritual leaders, and receiving the blessings of their parents, the couple got engaged on July 21, 2012 after a church service. After nearly two years of engagement, the two tied the knot and became one on June 28, 2014.
Faith and Beliefs:
Davon was brought up in the Christian faith and was raised in the Church of Atlanta Lighthouse on the southeast side of Atlanta, Georgia. When he was an infant, he was chosen to play the role of baby Jesus in the manger. When he grew a little older, he was baptized and placed in Sunday school, where he learned the children’s Bible stories and sang the infamous “Jesus Loves Me” song. He even played the flute in chorus. He was taught how to say his morning and night prayers and how to pray with thanksgiving over his food. When he was 12, he recited the Prayer For Salvation to invite the Lord Jesus into his life. He made sure he memorized the Lord’s Prayer, Psalm 23 and especially John 3:16. Davon had been trained up in the ways in which he should go. But at the age of 13, he moved back to South Florida, where he strayed away from the faith.

Davon had been trained up in the ways in which he should go. But at the age of 13, he moved back to South Florida, where he strayed away from the faith.
During this time of his life, Davon became a skeptic. Although he had Christian upbringings, he was later exposed to the doctrine of The Moorish Science Temple of America, Inc., an Islamic movement founded by Prophet Noble Dre Ali. He was also introduced to the doctrine of The Jehovah’s Witnesses, a religion founded by Charles Taze Russell. Thus, he grew up devoted to three different religions–praying to Jesus, Jehovah and Allah faithfully. He attended Christian churches and the Kingdom Hall often. He also had to read the Holy Bible, The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures alongside the WatchTower and Awake! Magazines, and a book on Moorish Literature, which was based off of the Koran.
Learning about different world religions–and seeing so many similarities, yet at the same time so many contradictions–made him confused. Davon reached a place in his life where he didn’t want to subscribe to any religion in particular, until he knew for sure which one–if any of them–contained the absolute truth. So one day he made a simple prayer into the universe and said, “God–If there is a one, true God–reveal yourself to me.”

Conversion
On Sunday, December 14, 2008, Davon was invited to a friend’s church, The Pentecostals of Cooper City, where the full gospel of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ was presented to and understood by him, and he felt a conviction from the LORD to “choose ye this very day whom ye shall serve.” Caught off guard and not completely ready to leave his life of sin — yet understanding that tomorrow is not promised to anyone — Davon made the decision to repent from his sins, surrender his life to God and get water baptized in the name of Jesus. That following Wednesday night, Davon visited his friend’s church again, where he was unexpectedly fire-baptized and filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost during an alter call. He experienced a true, born-again conversion. His spiritual eyes were then opened and this became the first day to the beginning of his new life. He soon dropped affiliation with all other religions, organizations, hobbies and friends that weren’t helping him reach his destiny in God.

Education
High School
Davon attended Hallandale Magnet High School in 2004, where he opted to be in the Communications and Broadcast Arts program and learned how to produce news scripts, news packages, public service announcements (PSAs) for the morning news, screenplays and even movie trailers. In 2006, he had the opportunity to enter a performing and visual arts contest, in which he submitted a commercial that brought awareness to drug-related issues. His submission gave him national recognition and earned him the NAACP Act-So Medal Award and a plaque for The Oscar’s Gold: District Silver Champion.
In that same year, he also helped launch his school’s first-ever Literary Arts Magazine and its first volume: “Writer’s Out Of Oblivion (WOOO)”. Discovering a new interest for English and creative writing, Davon began to submit his writings to different literary contests, and for two consecutive years, he won 1st and 2nd place in the Broward County Public Schools District Literary Fair for writing the best short story in the years of 2006 and 2007.
In 2008, he became a staff writer and the editor-in-chief for his school’s newspaper, The Thunderbolt, where he published news, news briefs, feature stories, opinion pieces, and satire. Davon graduated from Hallandale High School in the summer of 2008 with three honor cords: light blue, for success in the Dual Enrollment Program at Broward College; gold, for being in the Communications Magnet Program; and orange, for ranking in the top of his graduating class (6 of 285 students).

College
Looking forward to furthering his skills in both print and broadcast journalism, Davon applied and was accepted into Florida International University. Wasting no time, he immediately registered for the 2008 summer term. Davon got involved in many college organizations, such as: Panther Camp, Panther Power, Black Student Union, the Multi-faith Council, and Homecoming Court, where he was crowned Homecoming Prince 2008. |
He started publishing feature and profile stories as a contributing writer for his college newspaper, The Beacon, and after being deemed worthy, he eventually became an official staff writer, in which he interviewed and corresponded with students, faculty, staff, patrons, artists, and community leaders; reported and critiqued live events, critical situations and community dilemmas as they arose; and distributed the school newspaper around campus to maintain a 3-day weekly circulation.
In his upper-division classes, Davon learned how to film interviews, documentaries and commercials. He also learned the basics of visual and graphic design and how to create a blog from scratch. Davon graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelors of Science in Communication and an area of concentration in Religious Studies in August 2013. |
